How to Get More Reviews from Past Clients as a Wedding Pro

For wedding professionals, reviews are absolutely necessary! Reviews show prospective clients that you're more than capable, totally trustworthy, and the one they want when the big day rolls around.

As a wedding planner of 12 years, I learned a thing or two about getting reviews from past clients. And now, as a coach for wedding professionals, I’ve made it my mission to share my mistakes made and lessons learned with wedding pros just like you. When to Ask for a Client Review

So when should you ask for a review? Ideally you ask for a review VERY shortly after the wedding is over. In fact, if all goes well the night of the wedding and you know your client is thrilled, then it’s ok to plant that seed that night.

Here’s how it might go down:

Client:  (At end of event)  OMG, You were amazing! Best money we spent...we totally couldn’t have done this without you...ahhhh!

You:  Oh my goodness, thank you SO much for trusting me to help you plan this amazing day! I may reach out to you after you get back from your honeymoon and ask you to write a quick review for me if you don’t mind! You’re the best!

Client: TOTALLY! Everyone must know about how amazing you are!

If you have this opportunity above, definitely plant the seed but don’t get too intense. Just a casual mention to get it in their heads!

If you don’t have this opportunity, don’t worry! There will still be an opportunity to ask for a review later down the line. Just keep reading!

How to Ask for a Client Review

I recommend sending an email post-honeymoon (or within two or three days after the wedding if they are not going on a honeymoon). This email should thank them once more and asks for feedback as you grow your business.

If the feedback is raving, then you ask for a review. Not raving? Good thing you asked them to share privately. If this happens, you need to stay professional and thank them for the feedback and let them know you’ll use in constructively and then move on.

Where to Direct Clients for Reviews

Don’t put all your reviews in one basket! What I mean here is don’t send all your clients to the same place to leave you a review.  Google is king, so it should always be your prized favorite for asking for reviews.

I recommend sending your client a list of two or three places you’d like for them to leave you a review. Always note something like: β€œIf you only have time for one, then _______ [Google, WeddingWire, Facebook, Yelp] would be the most appreciated”.  This is important for a number of reasons but mainly because if you, for example, sent all reviews to WeddingWire and one day WeddingWire is gone, so are those prized reviews! Be sure to diversify your review locations just in case.
